California Connect Introduces Its First Course With ASL
California Connect has launched its first course with American Sign Language (ASL). The course teaches users how to set up and use the SquareGlow Smart Home Kit. This is an important addition to California Connect’s training resources. It gives people who use ASL the option to learn about their equipment through direct, visual instruction.
Why an ASL Course Matters
Written instructions and captions are helpful, but they do not always provide the same experience as information presented in ASL. ASL is a complete language with its own grammar and structure. For many Deaf and hard of hearing people, learning in ASL can make instructions easier to follow and remember. It may also help users feel more comfortable when setting up new equipment. The course allows learners to pause, replay, and review each lesson as often as needed.
Learning About the SquareGlow Smart Home Kit
The SquareGlow Smart Home Kit uses visual signals to help users notice important events in their homes. For example, it can notify someone when a visitor presses the doorbell or when a telephone or videophone call comes in. The new course introduces the parts included in the kit and explains how they work together. Showing each step in ASL alongside the equipment helps learners connect the instructions with the actions they need to complete.
Designed for Clear, Visual Learning
Each demonstration focuses on practical information that users need to set up and use the SquareGlow system. Learners can move through the course at their own pace and return to a lesson whenever they need a reminder.
Expanding California Connect Training
The SquareGlow Smart Home Kit course is the first California Connect course offered in ASL. It provides another way for Californians to learn about the equipment they receive and use at home. It also gives California Connect an opportunity to learn from this new format and consider how ASL may be included in future training resources.
